Online Entrepreneur Newsletter #048

Celebrating 100

I planned to publish, one post per week when I created The Online Entrepreneur Website.  Just under 6 months later, the plan went out the window as I published the 100th post.

This was no mean feat.

I had a plan, worked it and found I could often fit in a bit more writing than I had allowed.

Then in March, I did the challenge to write 30 blogs and record 30 videos/podcast

The focus was to create a higher profile and get The Online Entrepreneur seen with better rankings and potentially better sales.  Provide more content and resources to visitors.

The Online Entrepreneur website has some stiff competition from sites that have been established for many years and have thousands of posts on their sites.  They have seniority over a start-up like The Online Entrepreneur.

This is the problem that every new website has.

Most business owners have a website purely to be seen online.  The problem is no one sees the website because the rankings are low.

Rankings are low because they either haven’t been in business long enough to be seen as experienced and an expert, establish authority and prove trustworthy or they just aren’t producing enough content on a regular basis to be seen as a reputable business by the search engine.

The only way to improve visibility, is to keep adding regular content consistently.  The more content the better the experience for the visitor the better the ranking.

The more time the visitor spends on your website, the more that suggests you have good information of value to the visitor.

A website with a fancy home page, an about us page and nothing much else, just won’t get the traffic the business deserves.

Consistency is the key to adding new content, at least weekly, this shows you are serious about your business and how it is portrayed to the visitor.

Part of any business growth strategy should be planning time (blocking out time) each week to grow your website and social media presence.  Schedule the content you will be releasing throughout the week.

A typical Monday for me is

  • Write this newsletter and set up the autoresponder to deliver on Saturday.
  • Write an accompanying article about the newsletter topic that goes into more depth on the topic
  • Record a YouTube video about the newsletter topic – schedule release for Tuesday
  • Schedule the social media posts that will go out during the week for this topic.
  • Record a podcast.

Can you see the pattern?

There is a topic chosen for each week.  Information is created in different formats for the topic.  It means the message is seen across as broad an audience as possible.  This helps to build EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness).  It all helps to improve the ranking of the website.

So, now the marketing sorted for the week.  The focus turns to sales and delivery for the rest of the week.

Make a plan, schedule time to work it and you’ll be surprised with the results that come your way.

Although my plan was only to create one post a week on the website, I soon found myself creating 2 or more as it became a habit.

This means my website is now competing against bigger more established websites.

Before the 5th March Google updates, The Online Entrepreneur Website was ranked #8 on Google search engines.  This puts the website up there with the top sites in the world.

New search engine criteria have seen the site drop to #44.  This still puts the website in the top 50 in the world. It is now up to me, to find out what the new search engine requirements are and make sure I’m producing the type of content the search engines want to get the website back up the rankings.

That will be the topic for next week’s newsletter – Google’s new AI Search Results Page and how to provide information in a format that will get your site higher up the rankings.

This Week’s Action Step

Make a plan for marketing and schedule time to

  1. Write regular content on your website
  2. Write content for Social Media to drive traffic to your website
  3. Create a YouTube channel and include weekly videos.
