Newsletter #21 – Formula for Creating Content
Over 20 years ago, I started blogging. In those days people wanted any information available on the internet. Today, with so much content available, having a formula for creating content is the best way to attract search engines and get higher rankings for the website.
The higher the website the more traffic that will visit the site and the better the sales for your products and services.
In this week’s newsletter we will look at 2 types of content and the formula for writing them.
2 Types of Blogs
There are two main types of blogs on most websites for online business entrepreneurs.
- Stable – Informational Blogs
- Sales – refer last weeks blogs for different types of sales blogs
Google has looked at the different types of websites that come up in their rankings and want owners of the website not to just be pushing sales to visitors to their site.
Data shows us that
- 83% of all searches do not get the answer they want
- Out of daily searches 16% – 20% are searches for new information with very little available online.
So, search engines have altered what they are looking at and how they assess the rankings of websites. They want more information and less sales. Search engines want to identify authoritative websites so when someone searches, they are more likely to find the information they want.
Stable blogs are authoritative blogs. They provide information about the topic on the website.
For example, https://theonlineentrepreneur.co.uk is a new website I have been creating over the past 3 weeks. It is still very much a work in progress. There are more blogs and site structure being added each day. I started with stable blogs and within 2 days Google had indexed the site. Normally, you can expect up to 3 months before the site is indexed. This means I am providing the type of information people are looking for on Google’s search engine.
Sales blogs are still providing some information (see last week’s blog for different types of sales blogs) but they have a call to action (CTA) to encourage the reader to buy.
Google is still okay with these types of blogs as they know site owners have to make money. However, they want the reader to find the information they want as a priority and then move to a sales page if they want more product information.
I have seen some suggested ratios for ensuring the website is acceptable to search engines how effective these are I don’t know.
- New Website – No content – 2:1 ratio of 2 informative blogs for one sales pitch
- Intermediate Website – around 30 blogs on the site ratio 3:1
- Established Website – around 100+ blogs on the site ratio 4:1
The Formula for Stable Blogs
Stable Blogs – these are the informative blogs which are aimed at getting the site rankings higher. They will be SEO content driven blog with one keyword per article.
- Blog Headline – Include SEO keyword in headline
- Intro copy – this is the hook so people want to read more. The SEO keyword should be in the first couple of sentences
- What you will learn paragraph – contains SEO keyword
- Body Copy – the information, broken down into easy-to-read sections
- FAQ – helps the reader get more clarity and addresses some of their queries
- Summary – again closing with the SEO keyword in the final paragraph.
The Formula for Affiliate Sales Blogs
These are not “direct sales copy” blogs but rather blogs still providing information for the visitor encouraging them to buy. Buying is usually through affiliate links or direct to your own products.
SEO keywords are still included but there is more information and comparisons about the product and performance. They are good especially for affiliate marketers.
- Blog Headline – Include SEO Keyword
- Intro copy – provides the hook to encourage visitors to read more
- Best of – this is where you can place images of the products on offer
- Leading paragraph into the product review
- Table of Contents – reader can go into a specific section if they don’t want to read the full blog
- Product/s Review – separate heading for each product
- Additional Information – include links to the informative blogs where they can get more information
- Summary
- Affiliate disclaimer – if the product is an affiliate product then the disclaimer must be placed in a prominent place on the blog so people can see straightaway it is an affiliate product. Some of the latest blogs are putting the affiliate disclaimer at the top of the blog.
Summary
So, now you have a formula for writing both stable blogs and sales blogs that will be search engine friendly, keep your blogs ranked as high as possible and your website attracting consistently high traffic.
But don’t forget, your personal experience is a part of creating any blog as that resonates best with a visitor to your site.
