Help! I’m Not Getting Traffic to My Site

You’ve spent a couple of weeks setting up your website.  You’ve taken the challenge and created 30 posts in 30 days using SEO, but your website isn’t making any money.

In this week’s newsletter, we are looking at ways to increase visitors to your site and increase sales.

Google and other Search Engines

To drive traffic to your website, it needs to be indexed with Google and other Search Engines.   If the search engines don’t know the website exists then they will be unable to point potential customers to your site.

Google uses bots to troll the internet looking for new websites and new content.  They then classify it into a certain category and identify your niche.  The more they understand what your website is about the more they will be able to offer it to specific searches.

While Google is the major search engine, Bing and Yahoo make up about 10% of all searches so being indexed on them would help with visit traffic.

To be included in Bing and Yahoo search engines you’ll need to register with Bing Webmaster Tools, provide details about your website, upload a sitemap and then verify the site.  It’s not as complicated as it sounds and usually takes about 5 mins to complete.

My website host – Wealthy Affiliate – provides step-by-step instructions on how to get your site listed and how to verify.

Check your website host and see what training they offer.

SEO

When a search request is entered on Google, it will quickly go through all the sites that include the search topic and words finding the most appropriate sites and showing them at the top of the list.

SEO helps Google determine that your site has the information needed for the search being requested.

Do your own research into the type of words and questions people are asking about your topic and ensure they are frequently included in your website content.

The easiest way to do this is to do your own search for your topic and see the most commonly asked questions.  Include the questions and your answers in blog posts.

EAT

This has become one of the driving forces of Google over recent years and appears to be the way Google is going in the future.  EAT is about establishing that you are an expert in your field, have authority and are trustworthy

E – establishes you are an expert at what you do.  This is achieved through informative blogs on your site.  Google understands that you need to be able to make money through sales but they want the visitor experience to be good.  Providing informative blogs helps to establish this.

A – Authority is again about showing you know your topic.  This again is through informative blog posts.

T – Trustworthy.  Do you have just a sales page and nothing of value on your site or are you building a site that establishes you as being trustworthy to deal with?  One or two pages designed purely for sales are not what Google wants.  They want to see that the site is complying with necessary legislation.  One way to achieve this is through compliance and policy sections.

Be Better Than the Rest

Recent Google data showed the average number of pages on a website is 6.9  If you are building a website based on EAT you should easily have 10 pages preferably more of good valuable content.  This will instantly put your site above average and more likely to be top of the rankings with Google and other Search Engines.

The more effort you put into good content on your website, the more you’ll be rewarded with more traffic to your site.  More traffic equals more sales.
