Newsletter #024 – Essential Skills to Become an Online Entrepreneur
This week, I wrote a blog for The Online Entrepreneur website about the 10 Skills to Become an Online Entrepreneur.
The list of 10, I consider essential if you want to succeed online, but there are definitely a lot more skills needed than just 10.
Every business whether online or more bricks and mortar, require certain skills but what offer gets forgotten about are the intangible skills that are essential for every business.
In this week’s newsletter, I’m going to focus on one skill – Analytic Skills
Analytic Skills
Having a successful online business has become more technical and analytical-driven. To get traffic to a website and convert the traffic into a sale you need to know more about who the visitor is. The type of information they require and produce more of what the customer wants.
Analyzing the data and charts that are available helps you to modify what is working and what isn’t.
For example, I use the Google Site Kit plugin for my website. It gathers information about the traffic to my site. Where the traffic comes from and which pages or posts are the most read. This lets me know the type of articles people are looking for.
Although my website is only 6 weeks old, already the post most frequently visited post is “How to Become an Online Entrepreneur” with visitors staying on the page for a couple of minutes. The interpretation is that people want to know about becoming an online entrepreneur.
This prompted me to add an extra section into the post so people would spend even more time on the website. The more time spent on the site, the more Google deems it valuable information and the higher the ranking the more traffic it attracts.
I also wrote the blog about the “10 Essential Skills for Becoming an Entrepreneur” and linked it to the “How to Become an Online Entrepreneur” post.
I will now be analyzing the data to see if this works.
Know Your Customer
Another part of the analytics is how the traffic is generated and where it comes from.
Google Site Kit’s data showed that 5.4% of traffic is organic. This means people have searched for a topic and my blog is the one they chose. The remainder of the traffic is direct meaning people saw the site through using a link supplied in marketing posts.
Now the aim is to generate more organic growth as this is my perfect customer. The one who has a problem that I can solve.
Another part of the analytics for where the customer comes from lets me know I am reaching my perfect audience. For the latest statistics the biggest visitor to the website is the US, followed By UK, China, Germany and Spain. This lets me know I am reaching the main countries I want to target – US and UK.
Now I can focus the language and marketing to those two main countries. (see newsletter – What Language Does Your Customer Speak)
As you can see analytics are an important part of being an Online Entrepreneur.
