Newsletter #036 – Is Your Website Framework SEO Ready?
Did you know that the meta title and meta description for your website should be SEO-friendly to drive new traffic to your website?
OMG, what is she talking about?
If you had asked me that 6 months ago, I would have just stared at you blankly. However, since creating The Online Entrepreneur website and making the decision to build it myself (I used website creators to build previous sites) I’ve been on a steep learning curve for ensuring my website is as SEO-friendly as possible. Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions are some of the things I’ve learned.
What is SEO
SEO is Search Engine Optimization and it’s about using different tools and strategies to help search engines such as Google find your website and promote it to an audience looking for your information, product or service.
The better your SEO the better your results, the faster your website gets indexed and ranked on search engines.
Keywords and Phrases are one of the tools available for your website. Find the words and phrases your customers are most likely to be using and you will go to the top of the SERP (Search Engine Results Page)
Most people are familiar with using hashtags on social media posts. Hashtags are another SEO tool to get the post in front of an audience looking for your products and services.
Keywords and Phrases are exactly the same resource just applied to websites.
Meta Title
A Meta Title is the name you give to your website. Ideally, the title should include something about your product. The Meta Title is used by search engines to identify the category for the website. It also let’s searchers know what to expect from the website.
As an example, my website is The Online Entrepreneur. The Meta Tile reads – The Online Entrepreneur – How to Build an Online Business.
There is no doubt that my website is about how to build an online business.
Meta Description
The Meta Description is a short snippet to describe the type of information on the website. It should have as many keywords as possible that your potential clients are likely to use.
Again, using The Online Entrepreneur as an example.
The Meta Description reads – Create and grow an online business using SEO, Digital Marketing, Content Creation. Learn to monetize with Affiliate Marketing, Courses and Memberships
I’ve included many keywords in the description and made it a sensible couple of sentences
- Online Business
- SEO
- Digital Marketing
- Content Creation
- Monetize
- Affiliate Marketing
- Courses
- Memberships
If you are looking for any of that information and the website popped up in the search, with the Meta Title and Meta Description, do you think you would click on the link and take a look at the website?
You probably would.
Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions are often not known about or frequently overlooked and not updated to reflect the purpose of the website.
