Newsletter #025 – Let’s Get Crazy About Links
How are the Links Going?
What on earth is she talking about, I hear you say.
Links are an important part of SEO and Rankings for your website.
You can have the best-looking website in the world but without links, very little is likely to happen. Your site will languish way down in the rankings never to be found by potential visitors.
So, let’s take a look at links and why they are important.
What Are Links
Read an article online and undoubtedly you will see some words highlighted in blue. Click on them and they will connect you to another part of the website or another website.
They are used to provide a connection to other information or to buy something.
But links are important for building credibility with search engines.
There are 3 types of links we’ll be looking at
- Internal Links
- External Links
- Backlinks
Internal Links
Search engines are regularly changing the way they rank websites. They look at EEAT.
E – experience, how well you look after visitors to your website. Do you have a one-page sales copy website or are you providing the visitor with the best possible experience when they visit your website.
E – Expertise. Anyone can write sales copy and place it on a website. Yet how does the customer know how good you are at what you are selling. This is established through they type of content you provide on your website. The more informative a website the more likely you will be identified as the authority on your topic.
Authority – Anyone can claim they are an expert at something. Proving it in the eyes of the search engines and clients comes down to the type of content provided on the website and the amount of content.
Trustworthy – the more content provided on the website, the best the experience for the visitor and the higher the ranking. This then builds trust.
Internal links are about writing content that can be linked together so if the visitor wants more information they don’t go searching lots of different websites but are able to research the information they require on your website through linking different blogs together.
External Links
The external links are your different platforms where visitors can learn more about your and your products.
For example, when I write a blog, I have a list of actions to tick off before the topic is finished. Some of those things include, videos, training courses, podcasts, even a chapter in a new book I’m writing. Social Media platforms such a FB page or Group. Instagram or Twitter.
Linking to other products and services hosted on other platforms provides more confidence to the visitor that your business is a genuine business and not a gimmick sales pitch.
Backlinks
These are where other websites link back to your website. This helps to build credibility and authority.
One way of doing this is through creating a YouTube video that links back to a blog.
