Strategies For Creating A Successful Monetised Online Business
The author shares their planning timetable and strategies as a solopreneur to create a website resource that competes with the top websites in the industry.
The key is consistency in delivering content that provides the visitor with a great user experience rather than being sales-orientated with the sales coming naturally.
Personal skills of discipline and creating habits ensure the ability to produce the right type of content at high levels without burnout and is how successful online businesses are created.
When The Online Entrepreneur website was created just under 6 months ago, a plan was made to write one blog a week.
It was a realistic plan.
I knew, there were only so many hours that could be dedicated to the website so writing 100 posts at one a week, would take about 2 years.
Yet, here we are in less than 6 months with 100 posts achieved. Here, I’ll share with you the planning timetable and strategies that helped create the Magic 100 posts in such a short time.
Why I Created The Online Entrepreneur
I teach clients that the formula for wealth is to create an Online Business and invest the profits into Property, Shares, Crypto, Gold and Silver.
Many of my clients struggle with the concept of starting a business, let alone building a successful online business. The website was to show them what could be achieved over time with planning and discipline.
The Online Entrepreneur was the show not tell about what could be achieved with live weekly training sessions showing content created, SEO; website and organic traffic growth.
The target of one post a week was to show clients how effective having a writing strategy would be to help them grow their own sites.
Things don’t always go to plan.
Why The Most Successful Entrepreneurs Use Consistency to Create Content
There is a lot of competition online. It is estimated that 250,000 new websites are created every day. Most never achieve anything. They have low rankings and are left in the internet wilderness until they die.
Online Entrepreneurs realize there is a lot of work to do to compete near the top of search engines. This is needed to drive traffic to their websites and ultimately get higher rankings.
Their main competitors have been in business for years and tend to have thousands of posts on their sites making them the highest-ranked websites. These are websites that are considered authoritative and the go-to expert.
Competing with these sites which already have thousands of posts will lead to burnout if trying to produce thousands of posts quickly or be expensive if contracting content writers.
History has shown, that being consistent and posting every week helps to build trust over time.
Active websites, consistently adding new content, that have been around for a year or two will get better rankings and more traffic.
How to Plan Content Creation
Panic sets in when most people realize their website has just added another weekly chore to their business by writing posts especially if they aren’t natural writers.
I see content creation as marketing.
Every business needs a marketing plan otherwise, how do your potential customers know your business even exists?
Creating content becomes part of the marketing plan and I schedule marketing weekly it is one of the first tasks each week.
Monday is Marketing Day
A typical Monday is when content is created and scheduled for release throughout the coming week.
The previous week a topic will be researched and ideas noted. So on Monday, I will
- Write a post on the topic
- Write The Online Entrepreneur Newsletter on the same topic
- Record a short video to upload to YouTube reels
- Record a longer video to upload to My YouTube Channel. The videos are scheduled for release on a Tuesday.
- Schedule snippets about the topic for release on Social Media throughout the week. My main social media platforms are my Facebook Page and Facebook Groups. I sometimes include Instagram Threads; Pinterest; X; and Linkedin to start growing followers on those platforms.
- Record short audio for my podcast on the same topic.
- Create images for each of the different platforms.
It’s a busy Monday, however, now the rest of the week is focussed on sales and delivery and when needed new product development.
Set A Challenge and Create a Habit
Online Business Mastery Training was the name of the course teaching clients about building an online business. The sessions were recorded live every week. This lets clients work on their websites during training and have a record of what they were doing.
The coaching is on a Tuesday evening so Monday became the creation day. The Marketing Plan created the content for the course and showed how everything fitted together.
The marketing plan created the content creation habit.
Mad March Challenge
March was used to create the Mad March Challenge. It consisted of writing 30 posts and recording 30 videos/podcasts
I had to show clients that this was easily achievable.
This resulted in 58 posts being written and 27 videos falling slightly short of the recording target.
However, I was now well on the way to achieving the first milestone for The Online Entrepreneur 100 posts – this was achieved in the middle of April. Just less than six months from when the site was launched.
Content Creation is a Habit
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a website.
It takes years to build a website that the owner will be proud to say provides visitors with good information about what they do.
I’ve been a content creator for over 20 years. It is a pathway that requires discipline to sit down weekly sometimes daily and create something that will encourage someone to pay for your products or services.
In 2019, I started a new training course for creating and monetizing a website. The most successful websites, generating good revenue were websites with 200+ posts on their sites and that had been active online for over 2 years.
Their definition of good revenue was making $10k – $50k per month
This was quite an eye-opener as it showed that content creation as online business is possible but takes time, consistency and effort to build.
It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is one of consistently providing good information. Valuing a visitor by providing the best possible experience when they visit the website. Also, recognizing them as a potential customer who should have a great experience rather than looking for the next quick sale.
Sales will come naturally when the visitor has a good experience.
Form a habit of creating great content that provides the visitor with a great user experience and they will come back time and time again to spend money on your products and services.
A Successful Monetised Website
Websites can be successfully monetized once there is high traffic to the website.
High traffic comes by providing the visitor with a great website that provides answers to all the questions about the product or service the website is offering.
Information creates the Know, Like and Trust that the potential buyer needs to establish when dealing with online businesses.
Everything comes together by creating content that the visitor sees as beneficial to them, their needs and desires.
Master the skills of content creation, consistency and habits and you’ll have a successful monetized website for many years.
