Wow! Thank You
Last weekend I was at a workshop being held in Spain. I had the opportunity to meet some clients whom I don’t normally see as for various reasons they don’t come to live events. They are however, readers of the newsletter.
Thank you for the fabulous feedback about enjoying the newsletter and what you enjoy the most. It was unexpected although greatly appreciated. It also, helps me to know the type of content that is most beneficial for future issues.
Google Fallout Continues
The fallout from the Google Algorithm March Update continues with Google finding itself in a difficult situation.
The update was aimed at getting rid of spam websites and low content volume sites to provide the viewer with the best possible experience – a website that would answer all their questions. Unfortunately, this hasn’t quite happened and millions of users have found their websites affected with traffic halted to their sites.
One mentor, that I follow about SEO and online content creation has 100 niche specific sites built up over the past 10 years. He had all traffic stopped to the sites and “manual actions” issued from Google to repair the sites.
The actions are generic and don’t really tell you what Google wants you to change – a bit of a waste of time.
Not only has all traffic been stopped but sales have fallen off a cliff.
So, if you found your website affected by the drop in traffic here are some simple steps that can be taken to help improve the website, drive traffic from other sources and get your business revenue back up again.
YouTube
Can be a good way to drive traffic to your website by including links in the description section below the video.
Many people don’t want to be on YouTube but the reality is, if you want an online business, YouTube is an essential part of getting your message our to your audience. Not everyone likes to read. Videos provide an alternative format. Videos are ranking highly on Google search.
Social Media
Be careful what you post on Social Media as this is quickly becoming the go to way of driving traffic to websites or even making sales direct from the social media platform.
A recent Google search showed the fallout for websites with the top entries on the SERPs being from social media platforms especially Reddit and Quora.
Are you presenting the best possible image on your website?
Long-tail Keywords
Long-tail keywords are an SEO strategy that helps identify the types of questions that tend to be asked. Include them in your content and you have a better chance of getting and higher rankings.
I recently searched on Google for “why traffic to websites has stopped” As you can see there was no response to the search.
This tells me that there are no blogs written about this topic. Yet, I’m not unique in searching for this information and if I’m asking this question then others must be as well.
This provides a perfect opportunity to write a blog and create a video for this question. Note – The quotation marks indicate I’m looking for an exact match to the wording.
A survey last year about SERP (Search Engine Results Page) found that 80% of searches go unanswered. That is a huge gap in the market that you have the opportunity to fill.
Ask yourself the questions you are most likely to get for your product or service. Write the answers and/or create videos that answer the types of questions you would be asking.
At present, no one understands why websites have been hit so hard with the fallout from the Google Update. Many can only hope that the next update due in May will help to address the issue.
In the meantime, knowing that 80% of all searches on Google go unanswered, you have the perfect opportunity to fill the void. To create the type of content required whether that be in blog format, video, or on social media.
Keep providing the answers to questions and your message will be seen.
Get ahead of your competition who are still moaning about the drop off in traffic. Cover the bases in blog, video and on social media so you get to the top of SERPs sooner that your competition and this will help establish you as the authority.

Identify the problems your product or service solves.
Create blogs, videos and social media posts about the benefits of your product or service and the problems it solves.
