Newsletter #034 – Website Update?
In October 2023, I started the website The Online Entrepreneur providing additional resources for growing an online business.
There is a lot of work that goes on in the background building the website, generating SEO and generating content for the site.
Many people build a website, add their sales pages and hope for the best. Often wondering why they have no traffic to the site.
The Online Entrepreneur is a warts and all reflection of what it takes to build an Online Business with regular updates on how this website is developing.
So, here is an update for the first quarter of growing this website.
Content Added to the Website
There are now 45 posts on the website and 17 pages of content.
I set a target of 2 posts per weeks. It has been 16 weeks since I started which would have given me 32 posts. So, with 45 posts on the website I am almost at the level of 3 posts per week.
Google has indexed 40 of the posts. 2 are new so Google hasn’t had chance to index them yet and 3 have issues around videos which I’m currently working on.
Traffic
Initial traffic to the website was slow and down to me posting information on social media, in emails and mentioning to clients that I had started the site.
Today 23.5% of traffic to the website is organic. This means they have searched on the internet and The Online Entrepreneur website came up and seemed interesting enough to click on it.
Time is another important factor and the average time on the website is 2ms 48seconds.
Another good indicator is how many people I’m getting in front of compared to the last month. Traffic is now at 1.5k. Growing by 100 per day.
If you look at the chart above, the dotted line represents the past 28 days and the solid line is the current 28 days – huge growth.
Ranking
The website achieve an overall ranking of #8 giving it high promence on the search engine adding to the organic growth.
Three blogs have achieved #1 ranking for their topic. 3 other blogs are in the top 5 for ranking.
Monetization
As the number of visitors grow so too does the expectation for sales. I have added the following monetization to the website
· Affiliate Links – 3 affiliate links, Wealthy Affiliate, Jaaxy and Aweber
· Membership site links – a link to my membership site “Members Only”
· Links to Courses – link to Karen Newton International where courses are hosted.
Today, I received my first sale from the website which was for someone joining “Members Only”.
Results
The targets for the website were 2 posts per week. That has been exceeded with just under 3 per week.
Articles Indexed on Google – 40 posts are indexed on Google, 3 still need some work to be indexed.
Search Engine Ranking – Reached #8 with 3 articles reaching #1 and another 3 reaching top 5
Sales – my target was to make the first sale between 3 – 6 months. The website has been running for 3 months and the first sale has been made. So, on target.
While there has been a lot of work put into creating content and learning new strategies for changes in search engines algorithms, the website has performed well in a very competitive field.
The Next Set of Targets
1. Increase number of articles on the website to 100.
2. Increase traffic to the website to 10k
3. Increase sales to £500 per month.
4. Add advertising revenue to the website through Google Adsense or Private Advertising Platforms.
I share this progress with the website to show you, yes, it takes time to create the content but in the end, I’m attracting new clients I probably would never have had on my radar.
I also want to show you that regularly updating your website with content will help in gaining new customers.
