Newsletter #020 – 5 Types of Blogs

Every website needs content.  Indeed, to achieve high rankings in a search engine, especially Google, Bing and Yahoo, content is the only way to consistently rank on the first page of the search engine.

For many people, the idea of writing is scary but it is a necessity if you want to build an online business.

5 Types of Blogs

There are different types of content that help the website get rankings and in turn, generate income.  While there are many different types of blogs, here we look at 5 types.

  1. Stable Blog
  2. Answer & Response Blogs
  3. Comparison Blog
  4. Product Review Blog
  5. Benefit Blog

A combination of each blog helps establish the authority of the site.  It sets the site up as the go-to site.  Search engines love this and are more inclined to move the site higher up the ladder.  The higher the ranking the more traffic it will attract.

What is a Stable Blog?

The stable blog is an in-depth article about the topic. Typically, the blog will contain around 3000+ words providing information to showcase how knowledgeable the site is.

This encourages people to want to come back to your site over and over again to check the information and to see what more has been added to the site.

It is your chance to showcase your expertise.

With constant changes in algorithms by search engines to determine ranking and how people are getting around the requirements, one thing that has stayed constant is providing visitors to the website with great content.

The Difference Between Answer and Response Blogs

Answer Blogs and Response Blogs have the same intent.  The key difference is an answer blog provides a fact and a response blog has an opinion

Answer Blogs take the frequently asked questions (F&Q) and provides the answers.  The headings in the blog are the most frequently asked questions with the article being the answer.  Similar to this post.

With this type of blog, the visitor is looking for an answer to a specific question about the topic and the website is providing the answer.

Response blogs, tend to be more personalized with your opinion and experience with the topic while still answering the question.

Again, the word count for this type of content is 500 – 1500 words.

Comparison Blogs

Comparison Blogs take different products on a specific topic and compare different products.  There can be a ranking of which, in your opinion, is the best.  These blogs are sometimes referred to as “the best” blogs.

For example, if the website is about running shoes, it might have 10 different types of running shoes and create a list of the top 10 shoes, the good and bad points and rank them in order of preference.

Product Review Blog

The product review blog takes one item and provides in-depth information on the item.

Using the example above where there is a list of the top 10 running shoes, the product review will focus on just one shoe.  Provide more information about the shoe and rate the shoe.  As an example, write about the sole of the shoe and what it is made from.  The body of the shoe etc.

This is really, the features of the item and a sales pitch for the shoe and why someone would want to buy it.

Word Count for this type of article is 1000 – 1500+ words but as a guideline try not to go over 2000 words.

Benefit Blogs

People buy on the benefits and not the features.  How will the shoe benefit them?

My suggestion here is to find 10 benefits and write a summary of benefits such as the top 10 reasons to buy the shoe. Next, take each benefit and create a separate blog for each one.

Word count between 500 – 1000 words

With this variety of content on the website, it will be seen as the go-to expert site, ranking high in engine searches and generating more traffic to the site.  More traffic means more sales.

This Week’s Action Step

Create a plan for writing blogs on your specific topic.

The plan should be realistic allowing time for the blogs to be created and uploaded to your site.

On most sites it will take around 1 year to build authority and by year 2 the site should be making consistent income.
