Newsletter #017 – Imposter Syndrome
Every entrepreneur, at one stage of their career or another suffers with imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome, is when you realise, you don’t know it all and will clients want to work with you if you don’t have all the answers?
Will People Want to Work With You?
The truth is yes, people will want to work with you because you have some skill and/or knowledge that they need.
Imagine you are on the bottom step of a series of steps called entrepreneurship. There might be 100 steps or more along the entrepreneurship route. There are a lot of people who have yet to get onto the bottom step. Yet, you have the skills and knowledge to help them get onto the first step.
Would you turn people away and say, don’t work with me because I haven’t yet figured out how to get to step 2 yet. No, you simply sell your product or service and help those people who want to get onto the 1st step achieve that goal.
Continuous Learning
While teaching people how to get onto the first step, you start learning the skills and knowledge for the 2nd step.
You can now sell additional products or services to move people from step 1 to step 2. And you learn what needs to be done to get to step 3.
It is a cycle of continuous learning, growing your skills and knowledge and then helping other people along the way to grow their skills and knowledge so they can start climbing the steps for entrepreneurship.
Eventually, you will move up the steps and get to step 100. By the time you get there, your knowledge and skills are so high that people will pay a lot of money to work with you because you are the expert.
Yet, everybody has to start somewhere, and your first clients will be growing in skills and knowledge at the same pace you are. They will be joining you on a long journey, provided you keep learning and sharing each new piece of information along the way and get paid for it.
So, don’t fear imposter syndrome, recognise it as a healthy way of recognising you have some knowledge and skills to teach but also some knowledge and skills to learn so you can continue growing individually and continue to help your clients do the same.
