Newsletter #033 – Keeping A Diary For Success
This week I wrote a blog about the first week of building The Online Entrepreneur Website. It is called 6 Lesson’s learned in the first week as an Online Entrepreneur.
When I started The Online Entrepreneur Website, I wrote down everything I did each day. This was to keep track of where I was in the process of getting the website created but also, I had set a limit of working just 30 mins a day.
The diary was to prove to myself that I could build a website working just 30 minutes a day. But I also wanted daily states to prove that it isn’t about how much time is spent daily on building the website but rather consistently adding something every day.
The Stats are Important.
The image above shows what traffic is like currently (15th January 2024) and what it was like the previous 28 days.
I still only work on the website for a short time each day. Mainly creating at least one blog per week and uploading one newsletter. (the newsletter is about 6 weeks behind this one)
Keeping a diary of what was done each day and each week makes it possible to track progress and generate some statistics.
Keeping a Diary for Success
When I look back at the diary, most things only take a few minutes to do. The biggest time was watching the training videos that my web host Wealthy Affiliate provide.
It was very much a start stop process. What a minute or two and then go and do that on the website.
If I could remember every step to follow to build the website it would have been created quicker.
The other thing I note in the diary is which articles are written, which newsletters are created and how quickly they get indexed on Google.
The first couple of blogs were slow and took 5 days to get indexed.
Today, because I regularly create content – every Monday morning a blog and a newsletter. Google now indexes items within 24 hours.
Consistency is important.
The diary keeps me on track for ensuring I maintain that consistency.
Following Dad’s Advice
When I was 11 years old, my father introduced me to keeping a diary. Something I have continued to practice all my life.
It is only recently, I added keeping a business diary as well.
The great thing about the business diary is no longer relying on memory for something but rather being able to look things up and see the progress.
So, when I keep a daily diary for building the website, I know exactly what I did or didn’t do. I know the timelines. I know the results.
Now, when I’m writing newsletters, blogs or books, I have accurate information at my fingertips. Information that is from my point of view with my every step.
