Newsletter #009 – Social Media Marketing, Podcasts
Exercising, negotiating traffic jams or simply relaxing on a beach, most people have become used to having music or podcasts in the background while going about their activities.
If you don’t have a podcast, you are missing the opportunity to market to your audience.
For many the thought of having a podcast is scary. Who would want to listen to you chatting away about your topic?
The answer is thousands of people. Podcasts are a great way to get in front of your perfect customers.
What You Need to Start a Podcast
Surprisingly it doesn’t take much equipment to get started with a podcast.
My first podcasts were recorded using an app on my mobile phone. Recorded as a mp4 file and then uploaded to my podcast station.
The next step was using my laptop to record audio files. I used the microphone on the laptop and uploaded the files to my podcast.
Today, I use Zoom. This way I can record both a video and an audio file at the same time. The audio file goes to the podcast and the video to my YouTube channel. One recording for 2 different social media platforms.
What Type of Content is Best for a Podcast?
Like all social media platforms, different types of content work best on each platform and podcasting is no different.
There are mainly two types of content
- Short 15-minute tip-based podcasts – this type of podcast is your chance to share information about your product or service and give some advice to help grow your authority and audience know like and trust.
- Longer interview-based podcasts – guest interviews are great for growing not only your audience but also highlighting your product and services to your guest’s audience providing wider reach.
Don’t be afraid to bring your competition onto your podcast. They have the perfect audience for your product and service. They generally share their podcast as they are excited to let their audience know they have been invited to talk. As they are sharing your podcast with their audience you benefit because it is getting you in front of a wider audience.
Which Podcast Host/Platform Should You Use?
There are many podcast hosting sites and generally it’s about finding one that suits you technology wise and budget wise.
I use Hello Audio because it interacts with the platform I use for hosting my courses. It allows me to create a private podcast for clients.
Through Hello Audio my podcasts were automatically uploaded to Spotify and Apple.
Once there were a few podcasts on my channel, Google approached me to list the podcast on their channel.
So, the podcast now goes out on 3 stations providing a huge potential audience base.
Hello Audio will accept a YouTube video and extract the audio or because I use Zoom to record I can upload the audio file from Zoom direct to Hello Audio.
